Dustwind a cowardly, spineless, guilt ridden cat. He is haunted by his past and has allowed it to shape him into who he is today. Many cats do not like to interact with him which is fine by him because he seems to be more of a loner these days. The only cat who he is ever really seen with is Mulestar. Dustwind is known as Mulestar's little shadow always aiding to Mulestar's beckoning call. He reports everything he sees or hears to the leader. Most cats have no respect for him and don't consider him a senior warrior even though Mulestar says he is.
Dustwind was born in the clan to the she-cat Silverfoot and a tom named Brokenstorm. Not long after Dustwind's birth Brokenstorm left the clan for some unknown reason. Dustkit grew up thinking that his father left because of him and is the root cause of his abandonment issues. Coyotepelt was quick to step in as a fatherly figure for Dustpaw when they became mentor and apprentice. Dustpaw adored his mentor and was always by his side.
One day they were out training with another mentor and apprentice when a bush fire quickly engulfed the territory. The other mentor and apprentice got separated from Dustpaw and Coyotepelt almost immediately, they were never seen again. In the chaos of the blazing fire Coyotepelt was able to help provide a safe path for Dustpaw to escape before he was trapped by the fire.
After the fire Dustwind was made a warrior given the suffix -wind because like the wind he was fast and untouched by fire. He swore that he would honor his late mentor's memory by becoming his newborn kit's mentor when the time came. Dustwind fulfilled this promise by becoming Mulestar's mentor, although he never fully felt like he fulfilled it. The entire time he mentored Mulestar he felt as if the apprentice knew more than his mentor.
When Mulestar became a warrior Dustwind quickly took on the role of friend and ally. He did whatever he could to support Mulestar and get him to the role of leader. He is known as Mulestar's Shadow. He is almost always hanging around the leader or eavesdropping on the clan for Mulestar.
